BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A person was airlifted from Lake Padden Park on Tuesday following a bike accident.
South Whatcom Fire Authority says first responders were sent to a “significant medical incident” on Galbraith Mountain.
The extent or circumstances of the person’s injuries are not being released, but Fire Chief Mitch Nolze tells My Bellingham Now it was a mountain bike related accident.
Their injuries were severe enough to request an airlift at Lake Padden Park to fly the person to Harborview Medical Center for specialized care.
Chief Nolze says airlifts from places as public as Padden have been rare in the community but will likely become more common as South Whatcom Fire further develops their patient care procedures.
