BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Sections of north Bellingham will be the subject of several public hearings on Monday night.

In all, there will be four public hearings at the Bellingham City Council meeting. Three of the hearings concern the development of Barkley’s Urban Village.

The Talbot Group, which owns the majority of land in the area, seeks to rezone it for mixed use with a central core as well as a conserved open space. The central core would have a maximum build height of roughly 8 stories with some limitations.

One of the hearings will address the area’s adherence to the Environmental Policy Act.

Senior Planner Darby Galligan says that developing the urban village will bring more resources to the area, including a library and recycling facilities.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in City Hall’s council chambers.
