Mariners News

The Mariners are back against the Angels tonight with an exciting new addition to their lineup. The M’s acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for pitching prospects Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi.

Naylor is batting .292 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs in 93 games this season. The 28-year-old is coming off the first All-Star selection of his career last season with Cleveland.

He’ll look to slot in at first base, which had previously been a platoon of Luke Raley and Donovan Solano. Naylor will be a free agent after this season, so there’s a chance his addition is a two-month rental.

He’s expected to make his Mariners debut tonight in Game 2 of their four-game series against the Angels.

As for the departing Mariners, MLB Pipeline ranked Garcia as the No. 13 prospect in the club’s farm system, while Izzi is their 16th-ranked prospect. Garcia had just made his major league debut on Monday and gave up one earned run in two innings before being optioned back to Triple-A before the trade yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mariners insider Shannon Drayer reports that the Mariners are still pursuing a reunion with Eugenio Suarez from the D-Backs ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.

The Mariners will look to build on their success against the Angels tonight after beating them 4-2 yesterday. Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena and Jorge Polanco all homered in the win. Logan Evans backed them up with five innings of one-run ball.

All-Star Bryan Woo is making the start tonight for Game 2 in Anaheim. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:38 on KPUG.

Ichiro Suzuki is being enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend.

The Mariners legend will be the first Japanese player to enter Cooperstown during the induction ceremony on Sunday. He’ll also have his No. 51 jersey retired in a special ceremony at T-Mobile Park on Aug. 9 when the Mariners host the Rays.

Ichiro will join Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson and Edgar Martinez as Mariners icons that have been immortalized in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Bells News

The Zone is live from Joe Martin Field today for the Bells’ return home.

The Bells are hosting the Northwest Star Nighthawks for the first of a brief two-game series.

The Nighthawks aren’t technically part of the West Coast League, so the two games won’t count towards the standings.

The Bells are coming off a series loss in Port Angeles, where they lost the rubber match to the Lefties 3-2 last night.

Bellingham now owns a 10-8 second-half record, good for third place in the North Division, while still leading the North in overall record.

They’ll look to rebound against the Nighthawks tonight in the first of three non-league games this weekend.

It’s an early 4:35 first pitch from Joe Martin Field.

And be sure to stick around for the post-game concert with SpaceBand.

Storm News

The Storm’s highly-touted rookie shined in a dominant win last night. Seattle used a 56-points second half to rout the Chicago Sky 95-57.

Skylar Diggins led the team with 21 points and rookie Dominique Malonga had 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double. She also became the youngest player in WNBA history to reach 100 career points at the age of 19.

The Storm will look to keep it up tomorrow when they travel to face the Washington Mystics in DC.
