WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Labor Day celebrations have begun, and with that comes busy roads and potential travel delays on I-5 in Whatcom County.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says that the stretch of I-5 NB from Bellingham to the Canadian border will be especially busy through at least 7 p.m. on Friday.

Congestion is expected to be at its heaviest between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

By the time Monday rolls around, heavier delays aren’t anticipated until the early afternoon.

As for southbound traffic between the border and Bellingham, delays likely reached their peak earlier on Friday.

Some late-morning delays could occur over Saturday and Sunday, with heavier congestion expected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday.

WSDOT’s estimates are generated based on data from prior Labor Day weekend travel.
