WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – New financial assistance is available for local businesses who saw their customer base dry up over the summer.

Washington declared a drought emergency on June 5 for several counties, including all of Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

Businesses who were dealt a financial blow due to the drought can now apply for low-interest loans through the federal Small Business Administration.

The Economic Injury Disaster Loans can be granted up to $2 million to cover payroll and certain debts for small businesses, nurseries, and agricultural co-ops.

Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers do not quality for this financial assistance.

Applications can be filled out online and must be submitted by April 6.
