LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another Whatcom County city is looking to fund their criminal justice system through an increase to sales tax.

The Lynden City Council will consider an ordinance next Monday to increase the city’s sales tax by 0.1%. The funds would go towards criminal justice within Lynden.

This comes after the 2025 Legislative Session passed HB 2015, which allows municipalities to adopt a 0.1% sales tax for criminal justice.

My Bellingham Now previously reported the Bellingham City Council passed a similar ordinance earlier this week.

Lynden was approved for the sales tax on Tuesday by the State Criminal Justice Commission.

If approved by the council, Lynden’s expected fiscal impact would be up to $400,000 in a year and the tax would go into effect in January.
