WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Nation is among those celebrating Indigenous People’s Day in Whatcom County on Monday evening.

The event, held at Lummi Nation School, is open to everyone in Whatcom County and features a free salmon dinner.

After that, attendees will listen to a keynote address by state Poet Laureate and Lummi Nation member Rena Preist before hearing from a panel of young Indigenous speakers.

The theme of this year’s event is nilh to u (pronounced Neesh tu o), which translates from Xwlemi language to “since the beginning of creation.”

The night’s festivities will center around weaving the past, present and future.

The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by live music and dancing.
