LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – New details have emerged regarding an ICE arrest in Lynden last month.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson Jason Givens says that the suspect, 29-year-old Jesus Lopez-Ruiz, was taken into custody at a Lynden apartment on Oct. 29.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that Lopez-Ruiz was charged with assaulting a federal officer.

Homeland Security investigators say that charge stems from an Oct. 15 incident, where he was stopped by unmarked vehicles.

Lopez-Ruiz is accused of ramming his car into an ICE vehicle before speeding off.

One of the vehicles belonging to Border Patrol agents crashed into an uninvolved third party at the intersection of Birch Bay Lynden Road and Enterprise Road during the ensuing pursuit.

The accident left both drivers with minor injuries.

CBP spokesperson Givens adds that Lopez-Ruiz is a documented Sureño gang member from Mexico, who has a prior immigration arrest from 2016.
