WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More funding is on the way for families impacted by December’s flooding.

The Whatcom County Council unanimously approved a resolution on Tuesday, Dec. 30 to distribute money collected through the Healthy Children’s Fund to families with young children.

It will free up to $750,000 to provide urgent disaster relief to families with children ages 5 and under.

The funds will be used by the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group and other aid organizations to offer temporary housing stabilization and other child-specific needs to flood survivors.

The assistance won’t replace any other local, state or federal disaster assistance programs.

The decision comes as the group says it’s received over 750 requests for support following the historic flooding seen in the Pacific Northwest this month.

It estimates that the floods impacted more than 100 children ages 5 and under.
