WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More federal funding will soon be distributed to flood victims across Washington.

The state’s Employment Security Department announced that they received a $1 million disaster recovery grant from the U.S. Department of Labor late last month.

Funding will go towards flood victims who weren’t able to work or lost their jobs as a result of December’s historic flooding.

That includes impacted residents in Whatcom and Skagit Counties, along with any tribes located in either county.

This new round of funding comes in addition to a $21.3 million request that Gov. Bob Ferguson made to the federal government last month.

In terms of local support, My Bellingham Now previously reported that applications are open for families with young children to receive funding from Whatcom County.

The deadline to apply for the Healthy Children’s Fund Winter Storm Recovery Assistance Program is February 23.

And a Farm Flood Relief Program is now open to Skagit County farms impacted by recent flooding.

Businesses impacted by December flooding in Whatcom County now have new financial relief options.

WWU’s Small Business Development Center has opened applications for two grants with rapidly approaching deadlines.

The Whatcom Small Business Flood Recovery Grant covers costs for current operations, like payroll and rent.

Applications are due by February 20, and first reviews will begin next Friday.

The Community Food Co-op’s Farm Fund Response Grant is more geared toward cleanup and rebuilding costs.

Up to $5000 is available to qualifying applicants who submit their requests by this coming Sunday.
