BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham man has been sentenced for his role in a mistaken identity shooting case from last summer.
Court documents state that 19-year-old Ricky Rodriguez pleaded guilty to 2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon last Thursday, Feb. 19.
He was sentenced to just over a year in prison with credit for time served after spending the past eight months in the Whatcom County Jail.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that Rodriguez was part of a group that was walking in downtown Bellingham in June 2025 when someone in a car fired a gun at them.
A bullet hit one of the group members in the foot and Rodriguez later responded by firing more than 10 shots at a car that looked similar to the suspect vehicle.
It turned out to be an uninvolved Uber, whose driver wasn’t hurt, but the bullets hit the car’s roof and hood.
Bellingham Police have not yet responded to My Bellingham Now for comment on their investigation into the original drive-by shooter.
