UW Huskies News
The Huskies were bounced from the Big Ten tournament in a nail biter this afternoon.
UW’s men’s basketball team fell to Wisconsin 85-82 in the third round of the conference tourney. The Huskies trailed by 16 with under 8 minutes left in the game, but made a furious rally to give the 23rd-ranked Badgers a scare, but couldn’t finish it off.
Hannes Steinbach and Zoom Diallo combined to score 49 points as the Huskies now await word from the tournament selection committees to see if they have more playoff basketball left.
The Huskies are a long shot to make the March Madness tournament, as they own a 16-17 record after today’s loss.
WBC News
The United States is still alive in the World Baseball Classic.
Italy hammered Mexico 9-1 last night to help the US stave off elimination. The US will now face Canada in the WBC quarterfinals at 5:00 tomorrow night.
It will be a reunion between several Mariners, with Cal Raleigh and Gabe Speier on Team USA and Josh Naylor on Team Canada, along with his brother Bo.
The winner will advance to the semifinals on Sunday.
Seahawks News
The Seahawks made another flurry of signings today on Day 2 of the new league year.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the team signed former Packers running back Emanuel Wilson to a one-year deal worth up to $2 million.
Wilson went undrafted in 2023 before playing three seasons in Green Bay. He has just two career starts, but showed flashes last season with a 107-yard game and an 82-yard game.
He’ll look to bolster a running back room that’s thinned out after the departure of Kenneth Walker III and an injury to Zach Charbonnet that will force him to miss a good chunk of the season.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson also reports that they’re adding former Colts safety Rodney Thomas II on a one-year deal. Thomas started 25 games over his first two seasons, but has been a backup and mostly played special teams over his past two.
Meanwhile, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the team is re-signing fullback Brady Russell and defensive tackle Brandon Pili. Pelissero added that Russell had interests elsewhere but wanted to stay in Seattle as a key member of its special teams unit.
Kraken News
The Kraken are looking to finish their homestand on a high note tonight.
They’re playing the Colorado Avalanche with a chance to snap their three game skid.
What began as a promising stand at Climate Pledge with back-to-back wins quickly went south as the Kraken have slid into a tie for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They’ll now be tasked with facing an Avalanche squad that owns the best record in the NHL.
