WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Candidate filing week is approaching for several key races in August’s primary election.
The Whatcom County Auditor’s Office is reminding the community that filing week takes place from Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8.
Some of the major races include incumbent Rick Larsen’s seat on the U.S. House of Representatives and a soon-to-be vacant seat on the state Senate left by Sharon Shewmake. There will also be four races for a seat on the state House.
Two will take place in the 40th legislative district, which includes most of Bellingham, western Skagit County and San Juan County.
The other two will be in the 42nd legislative district, which includes most of Whatcom County outside of Bellingham.
Meanwhile, there will be two races for Port of Bellingham commissioner after residents voted to expand the board from three to five seats last fall.
You can find more information on the open offices, filing fees and steps to file for office on the county auditor’s website.
