BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Blaine woman was arrested, and a person was hospitalized following an early-morning assault on the Bellingham waterfront.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers received a report of the assault taking place near Zuanich Point Park just before 6 a.m. on Monday, May 11.

Officers arrived to find the woman still attacking the victim and had to pull her off.

The victim was then taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham for emergency treatment of significant injuries to their head, body and face.

BPD’s investigation, which included a review of security camera footage, found that the seemingly unprovoked attack began when the woman tried to take the victim’s small dog.

Police say she then headbutted the victim before throwing them to the ground, kicking them in the head and smashing their head into the concrete several times. According to BPD, the victim had no idea who the woman is and hadn’t seen her before the attack.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested and remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
