MOUNT BAKER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A late-season snow dump is headed for the North Cascades this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit counties, in effect now through 8 a.m. Sunday, May 17.

Mount Baker and other higher elevation areas are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow.

Forecasters say heavy snow showers could make travel difficult over some roads.

The highest chances for those heavy showers will come Saturday afternoon, which could be followed by lightning and small hail.

The late-season snowfall comes about a week out from Ski to Sea next Sunday, May 24.
