BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lower speed limits throughout Bellingham may become a reality this summer.
The city council will vote whether to approve an ordinance that would implement a three-year, three-phase lowering of speed limits across city limits.
My Bellingham Now previously reported on the council’s endorsement of the ordinance last month.
If approved, a 20-mph speed limit would be implemented in the downtown Central Business District and on roads near Western Washington University starting this summer. The timing will also allow school bus drivers to get acquainted with the new limits during summer break.
Additional speed limit changes, ranging between 5 and 10 mph reductions, are expected to roll out in phases 2 and 3 in other parts of Bellingham.
Councilmembers will vote on the ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
