Seahawks News

The Seahawks’ schedule for the upcoming season has been made official.

Seattle will open the season at home in a Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots on Wednesday, Sept. 9. That’s one of six primetime games on their schedule, including a Christmas night matchup with the Rams at Lumen Field.

They also host Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on a Sunday night game in Week 7 ahead of their Week 11 bye.

Their schedule concludes with two of their last three games coming against the Rams.

Mariners News

The Mariners are back at home tonight for the start of their three-game series against the Padres.

The M’s are coming off a strong series in Houston where they took three out of four against their rival Astros. But they’ll be without Cal Raleigh for at least the next few weeks as he deals with an oblique injury.

Seattle has a chance to jump into the AL West lead this weekend, as they sit just a single game behind the first-place Athletics. Meanwhile, the Padres are eyeing a division lead of their own as they’re only a half-game behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

Emerson Hancock is on the mound for tonight’s series opener. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s softball team suffered a setback in the national tournament this morning.

The Vikings fell to Biola 7-6 in their second match of the West Regional.

Sophomore catcher EmmaJoy Wise hit a 2-run homer in the first inning to give the Viks an early lead and it got extended in the sixth inning when senior shortstop Hailey Rath added a 3-run bomb. But Biola strung together five runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Western took the lead back in the top of the seventh, but Biola walked it off with a 2-run single to advance to the regional championship game.

The Vikings are still alive in the double-elimination tournament, as they now play Cal St. East Bay at 4:00 today in the fourth time this season the two teams have matched up.

A win would send them to the regional championship tomorrow, where they’d have to beat Biola twice in order to advance to the Super Regional, while a loss would end their season.

Meanwhile, a member of Western’s men’s golf team is being considered for a major honor.

Junior Conrad Brown has been selected as one of five finalists for the D-II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year award.

Brown recorded a top 10 finish in nine of his 10 tournaments this season. He also won the individual title at regionals last week while helping the Vikings capture their second regional title in program history.

The winner of the award will be announced by legendary Hall of Fame golfer Jack Nicklaus on Sunday, June 7 during his annual The Memorial Tournament.
