SAN JUAN ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Marine researchers are buzzing over a new Southern Resident Orca addition.

The Center for Whale Research said that some of their team members spotted an orca calf travelling with the L Pod on Sunday, June 14.

L130’s gender and mother have not yet been determined.

NOAA Fisheries West Coast believes the calf is somewhere between 1 to 3 months old.

This marks the second new calf born in 2026 after L129 was spotted for the first time in February.

According to the Center for Whale Research, there are roughly 76 living Southern Resident Orcas split between three pods.
