WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is issuing its own precautions as wildfires rage across Washington state.

Burning restrictions remain in effect for anyone visiting public lands managed by the BLM in Washington and Oregon. That includes bans on fireworks, sky lanterns and other explosive or incendiary devices.

Acting BLM State Director Kim Prill is warning recreationists that just a single spark can set off a massive wildfire.

As the region faces more heat waves this year in the midst of the fourth drought declaration in a row, officials are more wary of the elevated fire risk in Washington.

Travelers should be aware of fire risks posed by vehicles, like dragging chains and parking on dry grass. Any campfires should be extinguished and cool to the touch before leaving a campsite. And all recreationists are being urged to carry extra water, shovels and a fire extinguisher during their travels.

Several fires are currently burning across the state, including the Kartar Fire and the Upriver Fire that has killed one person and burned multiple homes.
