BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Developers are being sought to help tranform a key part of downtown Blaine.

City officials issued a request for proposals earlier this month for the 3/4 acre site that currently houses the Blaine branch of the Whatcom County Library System.

The ideal developer, team or partnership would have concrete plans for a larger library, new childcare center and multifamily housing units. The city is also interested in plans that allow for ample parking and pedestrian infrastructure.

Similar to the City of Bellingham, Blaine Councilmembers recently voted to remove parking and height restrictions within city limits in an effort to attract new ideas and developers.

Proposal applications are due by July 8, and councilmembers will issue a final decision on development by mid-August.
