Seahawks News

The Seahawks may have found their next owner.

The team announced Saturday that the Khosla family ownership group, including Vinod Khosla, has entered into a formal agreement to purchase the defending Super Bowl champions.

The $9.6 billion price tag is the largest sale of a team in NFL history.

Vinod Khosla is the founder of Khosla Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, and his current net worth is estimated at $13.7 billion, according to Forbes. The Khosla family will be required to relinquish its minority ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers as part of the deal.

ESPN reports that NFL owners are expected to meet in August to give final approval for the sale.

Mariners News

The Mariners were able to somewhat salvage their rocky road trip heading into the All-Star break.

The M’s beat the Rays 8-2 in Tampa yesterday to pick up their first, and only, win of their trip to Florida. Randy Arozarena and Weston Wilson each homered, and J.P. Crawford had three hits and three RBI to lead the win.

It came despite Emerson Hancock exiting in the second inning due to an injury to his pitching hand that came when he tried to field a ground ball on his first pitch of the game.

The Mariners enter the All-Star break with a 48-49 record and sit a game and a half behind the Rangers for first place in the American League West. Seattle will be back home against the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

Meanwhile, we got a great glimpse at the Mariners’ future over the weekend.

The team took third baseman Ace Reese with the 24th overall pick in the MLB draft on Saturday. The 21-year-old out of Mississippi State hit .336 with 24 home runs last season.

We also saw two of the team’s top prospects show out during the All-Star Futures Game yesterday.

Kade Anderson was named the starter for the American League and retired three of the four batters he faced during a 10-pitch first inning. The sole hit he gave up was to the Brewers’ Jesus Made, the No. 1 overall prospect in Major League Baseball.

Ryan Sloan followed up with more of the same, retiring three of four batters during a 17-pitch fifth inning.

MLB  News

Some of the heaviest hitters in baseball are taking the stage in Philly tonight for the Home Run Derby.

Cal Raleigh won’t have a chance to defend his title after being left out of the eight-player field.

The hometown Phillies have two stars taking part with Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. Last year’s second-place finisher Junior Caminero out of Tampa will also be participating.

The derby starts at 5:00 on KPUG.

Bells News

You heard about the Mariners’ draft pick, but our hometown Bellingham Bells also had some former players selected.

2024 Bells shortstop Roman Martin was taken 111th overall in the fourth round by the Athletics after finishing up his junior year at UCLA. 2023 Bells Isaac Yeager and Dean West each went in Day 2 of the draft to the White Sox and Blue Jays, respectively.

The Phillies took shortstop Tyler Spangler 36th overall in the first round and the Blue Jays took right-handed pitcher Gavin Giese in the third round. Neither had suited up for the Bells this season, but had both committed earlier this year.

It came as the Bells earned a much-needed series win over the weekend. They took two out of three games against the Port Angeles Lefties in their return to league-play.

Catcher Jake Lyall led the way with three hits and two runs yesterday in their 5-2 win over the Lefties.  Robbie Zimmerman tossed three perfect innings to stay as the league-leader in ERA, having not given up a single run over 12 and two-thirds innings this season.

Coming up tonight, the Bells are hosting the 4th annual Community Champions Game, which pairs the players up with participants from the Max Higbee Center.

First pitch is at 6:35 and all ticket proceeds go to the Max Higbee Center.
