BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A total fire ban is now in effect within Bellingham city limits.
Fire Marshal Shawn Linville issued the open burn ban at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 as dry conditions persist and fire danger levels are now “high” in Whatcom County.
That means any type of burning, including fire pits and recreational fires, are not allowed until further notice.
The ban has been issued in conjunction with a statewide burn ban, which prohibits open burning on all state-owned land.
Barbecues can still be used, but anyone grilling should be extremely cautious when disposing of used ash or charcoal.
Anyone caught violating the ban could face fines and criminal charges.
