MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Long-term repair work is shutting down a popular walking spot in Skagit County.

The City of Mount Vernon says that the Army Corps of Engineers and Dike District 3 employees will close the north end of the riverwalk starting Monday, Aug. 24.

Crews will be repairing the levee between the Division Street bridge and Lion’s Park, which saw some strain after last December’s floods.

That stretch of the riverwalk is expected to reopen sometime in late September.

Pedestrians are asked to use N 1st Street and Freeway Drive as a detour until the work is completed.
