OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new federal policy targeting healthcare is being challenged in a multi-state lawsuit.

Washington state Attorney General Nick Brown says that he has signed onto the suit, challenging new conditions placed for Title X funding.

He, along with 22 state attorneys general, are accusing Health and Human Services of adding unlawful requirements for healthcare providers to receive the funding.

Some of those provisions include advising against contraceptives, encouraging marriages and having children.

Washington gets roughly $4.3 million in Title X funds every year, which is used for family planning, cancer screening and STI testing services.

AG Brown argues, in part, that the conditions for the funding contradicts Title X’s own standards and regulations.
