WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Forecasters are expecting fall weather to hit the region this week.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says a system will bring widespread rain, gusty winds and possible thunderstorms starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, and lasting through Thursday.
Wind gusts are expected to peak Wednesday morning into midday at 40 mph in Bellingham.
Bellingham and Lynden are each expected to get up to quarter inch of rain between Tuesday night and Thursday night.
Meanwhile, NWS has issued a gale warning for the San Juan Islands from 2 a.m. through 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters warn that strong winds will cause hazardous waters that could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.
