WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A pair of local education institutions are getting support to save money on energy costs.

The Washington State Department of Commerce announced on Tuesday Sept. 1, that it’s doling out nearly $30 million to renovate hundreds of facilities across the state.

Among the recipients were the Ferndale School District and Western Washington University.

WWU is receiving $1,076,754 to fund energy-efficient improvements aimed at helping it comply with the state’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard.

Ferndale schools are getting $49,783 to conduct an audit that will identify cost-saving measures for energy efficiency.

In Skagit County, the Mount Vernon, Anacortes, Burlington and Concrete school districts also received state funding.
