Mariners News

The Mariners are trying to even up their series in Anaheim tonight.

They’re facing the Angels in the midst of their final road trip of the season.

Seattle’s playoffs hopes took another setback last night with their 6-4 loss in the opener.

The Angels scored the first four runs of the game, but a 3-run homer by Cal Raleigh in the fourth inning put the Mariners right back in it. The Angels would go on to extend their lead in the fifth on a 2-run single, and a late solo shot by JP Crawford wasn’t enough to rally the M’s.

Kade Anderson gave up five runs off seven hits through four and one-thirds innings in the start.

Seattle now sits five and a half games back from Houston for first place in the AL West, with a wild card spot nearly improbable at this point. They’ll look to rebound tonight with Logan Gilbert on the mound.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Sonics News

We’re hearing more about the potential return of the Sonics.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver met with the media this afternoon after two days of meetings with league owners. He said most of the discussions surrounding expansion involved Las Vegas, since the city had more questions than Seattle with a larger pool of bidders and the lack of a clear stadium to host a basketball team in.

One Roof Sports and Entertainment, led by Kraken majority owner Samantha Holloway, remains the lead group in Seattle, though Silver said the league is looking at more than one bid for the city. A second group led by private equity firm Black Sun and Native World Sports emerged in August with the potential to host the stadium on the Tulalip Indian Reservation in Marysville.

Silver also said the NBA had operational groups that were encouraged when they toured Climate Pledge Arena to evaluate it as a potential host site.

He says it remains the league’s goal to make a decision on expansion by the end of the year.

NFL News

The former Seahawks’ Super Bowl MVP had an impressive debut with his new team last night.

Kenneth Walker III ran for 173 yards and scored two touchdowns in Kansas City’s 31-10 win over Denver on Monday Night Football. K-9 had seven carries on the Chiefs’ opening drive and later scored on a 60-yard run, as he finished with the most rushing yards by a Chiefs player since 2013.

2x MVP Patrick Mahomes threw for 184 yards and two scores while also running for another in his first game back since tearing his ACL last December.

It wrapped up the opening week of the NFL season, with Week 2 set to kick off Thursday when the Buffalo Bills ring in their new stadium with a high-octane matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The leagues cited escalating threats facing players, coaches and officials in making the request.
