Week 3 of the high school football season is kicking off tonight with a classic rivalry match.

Ferndale is hosting Lynden in the latest installment of their annual showdown.

Allan Fee and the Zone crew are live at Ferndale High School to preview that matchup and all the other ones happening across the county. They’ll take you right up until the 7:00 kickoff between the Lions and Golden Eagles on KPUG with Randy Farmer and the coach Dan Kaemingk on the call.

Over on KBAI, Squalicum and Burlington-Edison are facing off at Civic Stadium in a clash between teams with playoff aspirations. That will also kick off at 7:00 with Jason Upton and Rick Todd on the call.

Elsewhere across the county tonight…

Lummi Nation kicks things off by playing on the road against Northwest Christian at 6.

Starting at 7, Nooksack Valley is traveling to face their old nemesis King’s.

Mount Baker is at Kamiak.

Lynden Christian is on the road for 3A powerhouse Bellevue.

Bellingham is at Lakewood.

Sehome is at Sultan.

And just south of us, Anacortes is hosting Archbishop Murphy in a meeting between two of the top 2A schools in the state.

Meridian hosts Colville at 1 pm.

Blaine’s game against Bellevue Christian has been called off.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are gearing up for their second matchup of the season.

They’re on the road against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in a divisional showdown.

The Hawks will look to keep up their stretch of dominance over the Cards, having won their last nine matchups. But Arizona is coming off a statement win over the Chargers in Week 1 under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur.

Sunday’s game will be a reunion between first-round rookie running backs Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love, who played together at Notre Dame.

Coverage begins at 11 am and kickoff is at 1:25 on KPUG.

It comes after the Bills kicked Week 2 action off last night by breaking in their new stadium with a 41-31 win over the Lions on Thursday Night Football.

Huskies/Cougars News

The Huskies are back tomorrow for an in-state matchup.

They’re hosting Eastern Washington with a chance to improve to 3-0.

UW fell out of the AP Top 25 this week after an unconvincing win over Utah State. They’ll look to make their case to voters that they belong in the national rankings.

Coverage begins at 2:00 and kickoff is at 4:15 on KGMI.

Meanwhile, the Cougs are searching for their first win of the season when they play their home opener against Duquesne.

Mariners News

The Mariners are opening their final road series of the season tonight.

They’re taking on the MLB-worst Colorado Rockies in the Mile-High City.

The M’s are coming off a series loss to the Angels that all but sealed their fate. They sit six games behind the Astros for first place in the AL West with just nine games left in the season, while a wild card spot remains nearly impossible.

Bryan Woo is on the mound as he looks to give Seattle a late-season pickup. Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:10 on KGMI.

Storm News

The Storm are back from the WNBA’s late-season break.

They lost to the Las Vegas Aces 114-77 in their first game back from the FIBA Women’s World Cup. The Aces’ Jackie Young tied the WNBA record for points in a quarter with 22 in the first and finished with a career-high 35.

Rookie Flau’jae Johnson led the Storm with 25 points in the loss.

Seattle has already been eliminated from postseason contention and the playoff picture is already nearly set in the WNBA with just three games left in the regular season.

The Storm are back tomorrow when they travel to play the Golden State Valkyries at 6 pm.

WWU Vikings News

Big weekend for Western athletics.

The Vikings’ women’s soccer team is hosting rival Central at 7:00 tomorrow night. The Viks are coming off a 1-0 win over Northwest Nazarene last night to open their GNAC schedule.

The men’s team is playing at Dallas Baptist at 5:00 tonight in their final game before conference play.

Meanwhile, Western’s volleyball team is facing a tough road test against 21st nationally-ranked Simon Frasier at 7:00 tonight.
