BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s top official will be speaking on the recent uptick in federal immigration enforcement.

Indivisible Bellingham says Mayor Lund will address the city’s responses to ICE activity on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

According to statistics from the Deportation Data Project, there were 60 ICE arrests made in Whatcom County between June 1 and Aug. 4. Of the 60 arrested over that period, nine were identified as convicted criminals.

It included a significant spike with 36 arrests in June, reflecting the most the county has seen in a single month since the group began tracking data in 2022.

The statistics come in the form of government data provided by ICE in a response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, processed by the Deportation Data Project and analyzed by My Bellingham Now.

Tuesday’s meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship on 1207 Ellsworth St.

Lund will take questions after she gives her address, which is free and open to the public.

Another Indivisible Bellingham meeting addressing the impact of immigration enforcement will take place at the Ferndale Library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, as well.
