WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham woman was arrested in connection to a hit and run in Birch Bay over the summer.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says the incident occurred on Birch Bay Drive on July 27.

The victim told deputies they were riding their bicycle when an erratic driver braked suddenly, causing the cyclist to run into the back of the vehicle.

It caused a small laceration on the cyclist’s knee, among other minor injuries.

Witnesses say the driver got out of the car, but their passenger told them to get back in before they could exchange information and they drove away.

The cyclist took a photo of the car before they left and later identified the driver in a photo lineup.

Sedro-Woolley Police recently noticed there was probable cause for the driver’s arrest and took the 56-year-old woman into custody on Monday morning, Oct. 5.

She was transferred to the Whatcom County Jail before being released on personal recognizance later that night.
