OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Seattle crypto company has been ordered to shut down its kiosks across the state.

The Washington Department of Financial Institutions says that as part of the order, Coinme will also need to pay a $2.5 million fine.

A multi-state lawsuit was launched against Coinme last year, alleging they fell short of various state financial requirements. Those included insufficient accounting standards and a lack of protections against money laundering at its kiosks.

According to their website, Coinme currently has 17 kiosks in Whatcom County and 10 in Skagit County.

Wednesday’s order resolves a statement of charges issued to Coinme by the Department of Financial Institutions.

The company has until the end of this year to shut down and remove all kiosks in Washington, Ohio, Georgia, Alaska, Arkansas, North Carolina and Illinois.
