WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A biotoxin advisory has been lifted for a Whatcom County lake.
Whatcom County Health and Community Services says that recent sampling found safe levels of microcystin toxins at Toad Lake earlier this week.
The advisory was initially issued in late August, according to previous reporting from My Bellingham Now.
There aren’t any additional water quality advisories issues for bodies of water in Whatcom County, but health and community services is still advising people to be cautious.
Algal blooms happen often, but not all blooms will be toxic to humans. County health spokesperson Ron Warner says “when in doubt, stay out” when it comes to blooms.
Harmful algal blooms can look like a red, brown or green paint spill on a water’s surface.
Anyone who sees a suspected algal bloom is urged to avoid the body of water and report it to county health officials.
