It’s a big game for Lynden football with Senior Night, but Lions fans have plenty else to be excited about.
Lynden’s defending state champion volleyball team edged Sehome in a five-set thriller last night.
The No. 1-ranked Lions had lost just a single set on the season entering last night’s game, but the Mariners gave them everything they could handle in a rematch of last year’s state semifinals showdown.
Lynden and Sehome are also set to take part in a tournament at Western Washington University tomorrow.
They own the top two records in the Northwest Conference, with the district tournament set to begin on Oct. 31.
Seahawks News
The Seahawks are recovering from a heartbreaker in Denver last night.
They fell to the Broncos 17-14 in overtime on Thursday Night Football.
The Hawks trailed 14-3 at halftime and rallied to send it to OT on a last-second field goal by Jason Myers. But Sam Darnold threw his second interception of the game on their first overtime drive before the Broncos nailed a 53-yard field goal for the win.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 12 catches for 134 yards as Seattle fell to 3-3 and now have many losses as they did in all of last season.
They have extra time to get right before they host Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football next weekend.
Huskies/Cougs News
The Huskies are back tonight with a new face at starting quarterback.
They’re at Purdue with a chance to pick up their first Big Ten win of the season.
Junior Elijah Brown is starting at quarterback in the absence of Demond Williams Jr., who left their last game against Iowa with a rib injury.
UW’s looking to get right after a 3-0 start turned into three straight losses as they sit at the bottom of the conference standings. Purdue is coming off back-to-back Big Ten wins over Illinois and Minnesota.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 5:00.
Meanwhile, the Cougs are taking the field in Corvallis tomorrow against Oregon State. They’re also trotting out a new starting quarterback in redshirt freshman Owen Eshelman.
That game kicks off at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon.
It comes as ESPN reports the College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand the field to 24 teams in 2027.
Kraken News
The Kraken’s road success came to an end last night, but they still earned points.
Seattle fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime to fall to 5-2-1 on the season. Matt Beniers scored on an assist from Vince Dunn with less than five minutes remaining to send it to OT, but Tampa scored just two minutes in to stay perfect at home.
The Kraken are wrapping up their road trip tomorrow afternoon against the Florida Panthers.
Coverage begins at 2:30 and puck drops at 3:30 tomorrow on KPUG.
MLB Playoffs News
The Brewers are advancing to their first World Series in 44 years.
They beat the Dodgers 6-4 last night after rallying from a 4-0 deficit to advance to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
Former Mariners outfielder Jake Bauers won NLCS MVP in the sweep after hitting a key two-run double and drawing a game-tying walk in last night’s comeback win.
Milwaukee now awaits the winner of Tampa Bay and Cleveland.
Game 4 of that series takes place tonight, with the Guardians holding a 2-1 lead. First pitch is at 5:00 from Cleveland.
Sonics News
Rough news for Sonics fans.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported today that NBA commissioner Adam Silver indicated that expansion in Seattle was “no longer a lock” at last month’s owners meeting.
Windhorst cited multiple ownership sources, who said Silver even reintroduced the idea of Mexico City as a possible destination for expansion.
His report states that Las Vegas is still expected to get an expansion team, while the league is still waiting for bids to increase on a potential franchise in Seattle.
