LUMMI ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lummi Island ferry will pause service for maintenance Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The Lummi Island ferry will be out of service during the morning and early afternoon while crews inspect and maintain terminal facilities at both Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point.

County officials say the inspections require large equipment that must be transported to Lummi Island aboard the Whatcom Chief while it is operating. Because of that, the terminal work could not be completed during the ferry’s recent dry dock period.

Whatcom County Public Works says the Whatcom Chief will stop running from 10:10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The last morning departure from Gooseberry Point is scheduled for 9:50 a.m., with the final run from Lummi Island at 10 a.m.

County officials say no additional trips will be made during the closure so crews can complete a thorough inspection of both terminals.

The work is weather dependent, and any schedule changes will be posted on the county ferry website.
