BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The City of Bellingham has settled the last of the lawsuits it faced over the unauthorized use of a dead body for training purposes.
Bradley Ginn Sr. died while being transported in a city ambulance in 2018.
The hospital would not accept his body and paramedics took it to a Bellingham fire station until a funeral home could be contacted.
Fire personnel and two office workers practiced placing a breathing tube in the body while it was at the station.
Family members sued the city when they found out about the practice, which was done without their knowledge or permission.
The Seattle Times reports the last litigant to settle with the city was Ginn’s brother, who was awarded $175,000.
The city has settled lawsuits stemming from the case for a total of $550,000, with the rest going to Ginn’s widow and children.
