BELLINGHAM, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A ferry flooded while sailing to Bainbridge Island Tuesday, and a viral video captures it all.

The Seattle Times reports the Issaquah ferry was traveling from Eagle Harbor to Anacortes to relieve the Chelan for required maintenance when water poured onto the car deck.

Rough weather has rocked western Washington in the last few days, and the ferry’s crew monitored forecasts prior to sailing.

As soon as the ship passed out of the sound, the predicted gale force winds slammed waves into the now unprotected ferry.

Ferries can navigate most weather in the region due to their size.

But in hindsight, the ship should not have been out on the water according to The Times’s reporting.

One car was damaged during the flooding, but no passengers were on board and no crewmembers were injured.

The ferry system has faced a lot of pressure recently to keep a consistent schedule amid staffing shortages and vessel issues.

Issaquah will be out of commission for a few days to make minor repairs.
