NEWHALEM, Wash. – The Sourdough wildfire near Diablo Lake in Whatcom County is now burning 1,440 acres.

Northwest Incident Management Team 10 took command of the fire at 6 a.m. on Monday, August 7th, bringing additional resources to the fight.

Crews were transported to the Ross Lake Resort by boat on Monday, and firefighters are removing vegetation under the powerlines running from the Diablo Dam.

Smoke from the wildfire may impact communities in Whatcom County and the North Cascades.

Highway 20 remains closed between Newhalem and Rainy Pass while crews battle the wildfire.
