BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man has been arrested after being accused of cyberstalking a child.
An investigation into the suspect began in March after officials at Fairhaven Middle School contacted Homeland Security, according to court documents.
The victim had spoken to school officials about concerning sexual messages that had been sent to her by an adult male that she did not know.
The suspect acknowledged through texts that the victim was a minor but continued sending her inappropriate messages.
In some instances, the suspect was able to obtain private images that the victim had not posted to social media.
The victim later recognized the man as someone who she saw frequently on a trail near her house.
Homeland Security arrested the suspect, 41-year-old Miles Smith, on Friday, April 28th.
He faces charges related to cyberstalking and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
