OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington state Senate has passed a bill that would loosen the standards under which police could pursue a fleeing suspect.

But it could hit a dead end in the House where lawmakers refused to allow a floor vote on a similar measure on Tuesday, March 7th.

Senate Bill 5352 would allow officers to initiate a vehicle pursuit if they had “reasonable suspicion” rather than “probably cause” that a suspect had committed a serious crime.

It would also modify some other restrictions placed on pursuits by a law passed last year.

It now goes to the House, which has shelved a similar bill first introduced by Blaine Democrat Alicia Rule.
