OLYMPIA, Wash. – A bill banning the sale, manufacture and import of assault-style weapons in Washington state has cleared its final hurdle.

The House voted 56-42 in favor of the bill on Wednesday, April 19th, in their second vote after it was amended in the Senate.

It now heads to Governor Jay Inslee to be signed into law after he advocated for the bill as an answer to recent mass shootings.

The ban would cover more than 50 gun models including AR-15s, AK-47s and similar style rifles.

A full list of the banned weapons can be found on the second page of the bill.

It does allow exemptions for sales to law enforcement agencies and the military.

The law would go into effect immediately once it is signed.
