MAPLE FALLS, WA. – Another biotoxin alert has been issued for a Whatcom County lake.
The county’s Health and Community Services says that unsafe levels of algal toxins have been detected at Silver Lake.
They are asking people and their pets to avoid ingesting the water or swimming in it.
Boating and fishing are considered low risk activities and can still be done safely on Silver Lake.
The algal toxins, or microcystin, impacts the liver and can cause abdominal pain, nausea, blistering, and even pneumonia.
