ORCAS ISLAND, Wash. – Marine researchers are baffled after a common tuna was recently found in Washington state.

KIRO reports that a 5 and half foot, 220-pound bluefin tuna was found dead on Orcas Islands Crescent Beach on Wednesday morning, July 12th.

Bluefin tuna have never been documented before in the Salish Sea, as they prefer to live in warmer waters.

Scientists are preparing to study the tuna’s carcass for more information as to how the fish ended up so far north.
