KENDALL, Wash. – Searchers believe they have found the body of a Whatcom County woman who has been missing for almost a month.

Julie Montague-Ayers was walking with another person on March 10th near Maple Falls when they became separated.

She is 67 years old and reported to have moderate-level dementia.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports that a person looking for her reported spotting a body in a deep ravine near the family’s home on Sunday, April 2nd.

Difficult terrain and weather conditions delayed retrieval of the body until Monday morning when members of Bellingham Mountain Rescue were able to reach it.

The Whatcom County Medical Examiner is working to confirm the person’s identity.
