BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) A popular Bellingham park was damaged over the weekend after someone drove over its lawn.

A neighbor reported around 4 a.m. Sunday, November 12th, that a car drove onto Boulevard Park and did donuts on its turf.

Bellingham Parks Operations Manager Steve Janiszewski says damage is estimated in the thousands of dollars.

He says the park’s wet turf makes this the worst time of the year for work to fix the damage.

Areas of the lawn that were affected will be closed off until March or April of next year.

In the mean time, Janiszewski says the City will start locking the gate that the car drove through at night to prevent any future incidents.
