BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Plenty of rainfall is on its way to kick off the first day of fall.

The National Weather Service in Seattle says that cooler temperatures and significant rainfall will make its way to Western Washington starting on Saturday, September 23rd.

The heaviest rain showers are expected on Monday and Tuesday.

Any precipitation heading our way will likely help extinguish wildfire activity in the North Cascades.

It comes as most of Whatcom County is still under an emergency drought advisory.

And with the rain on the way, another burn ban in Whatcom County has been lifted.

Officials with the North Cascades National Park Service Complex say that recreational fires will be allowed on their lands as of Friday, September 22nd.

That includes areas around Highway 20 and Ross Lake, which has seen lengthy closures over the past few months due to wildfires.

Those who wish to set up a campfire are being asked to be mindful of embers and to fully extinguish the flames when they are finished.
