BELLINGHAM, WA – Whatcom County residents near the border may hear a seemingly random alarm on their phones Wednesday.

That’s because Canada is testing their national Emergency Alert System Wednesday afternoon.

Residents in and around B.C. will receive the alert tone at 1:55 p.m. on their smartphones and via Canadian TV and radio broadcasts.

No action is needed, and people are asked to not call 9-1-1.

The test is similar to the U.S. alert that was recently sent out last month.
