BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) A memorial bench for the late Henry King will be installed in Boulevard Park this month.
Fernando Gonzalez told KGMI that he organized a GoFundMe campaign with the hope of raising $1500 for the bench but received over $2,200 just three hours after starting it.
The extra $700 was donated towards another fund for King’s funeral arrangements.
The bench will be placed along the trail just off Taylor Dock near a bench King was known to frequent.
It will include a plaque engraved with the statement: “In Loving Memory of Henry Howard King, Donated by the Loving People of Whatcom.”
Gonzalez says he did not know Henry King personally but felt like it was the “Bellingham thing to do.”
A City parks official told Gonzalez that the foundation has already been poured and the bench is set to be installed in about a week.
Bellingham Police arrested Elijah Belmont last week in connection to King’s murder in Boulevard Park on March 12th.
