BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham residents may soon no longer have to lug around multiple recycling containers on collection day.
Mike Olinger with Public Works says they and Sanitary Service Company are asking the City Council to okay a new plan that would do away with the three-bin system.
He says “single stream” recycling should improve efficiency and keep costs down.
Residents would be able to place all their recyclables in one bin without sorting them.
All residential customers would also receive organic waste service for food and yard compostables.
Both programs together are expected to cut down on the amount of garbage sent to landfills and possibly reduce how often customers need pick-up service.
The council will consider the changes at its meeting on Monday, February 27th.
