BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Another round of cold, winter weather will be making its way into Whatcom County this week.
The National Weather Service in Seattle says a cold weather system will move into the Pacific Northwest on Monday, February 20th.
It will be breezy Monday and Tuesday with heavy mountain snow.
Strong, gusty Fraser River outflow winds will bring windchills in the teens and single digits in Whatcom County Tuesday night through Thursday.
Some lowland snow is possible late in the week, but significant amounts are not expected.
And avalanche warnings are in effect for some of the state’s mountain passes.
The Northwest Avalanche Center has issued warnings for Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes, and they are recommending people avoid travelling through either area.
The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Monday, February 20th.
Conditions along the Mount Baker Highway and SR 20 could also become treacherous throughout the day.
Warnings are not in effect for those roadways, but the risk of avalanches remains high for the North Cascades.
