BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A new Food System Plan is on its way to Whatcom County.
The County Council unanimously approved the plan during their meeting last Tuesday.
It includes a 10-year outline of actions and policies that the County can take to support the local food system and address the root causes of food insecurity.
The plan looks to strengthen local farms, markets and food banks among over 100 actions laid out in the proposal.
The final 46-page document was developed using over 200 interviews from stakeholders in the Whatcom County food system.
